I had to make the immense journey to Purley, Surrey the other night - I knew it was going to be traumatic so I borrowed a friends sat nav. A device that previously I thought was wholly unnecessary - well it turns out that if a husband and wife are navigating - the sat nav takes a lot of the emotion out of the business. It does not say "You idiot - why do you never listen to me" merely "do a U turn where legal"
Over the last few weeks I've been at a number of family events and I've just realised that I'm one of the uncles who turns up and all the young people wonder why they are there and what exactly is their connection with the event.
So once again on Saturday night I was that man

googlpedia is great
I love information. I really do - I love finding out about things that's why I love google and the wikipedia.
Of course my favourite browser is firefox
Firefox has extenstions and the true firefox lover has seven zillion. I have preferred the raw speed of firefox and not bothered with them much.
At last I've found one that I love it's googlepedia = google+ wikipedia so now when you search on google it automatically searches wikipedia too.
For information mavens it's marvellous stuff - you can access the firefox extension here on https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/2517/
so the formula is
google + wikipedia = googlepedia
firefox + googlepedia = information heaven

On Saturday 4th Nov I realise that an elvis impersonator is not everybody's cup of tea but this man is great entertainment in a very accessible and convenient way.
I'll be there for a little less conversation and some jailhouse rock
A friend from India is coming over for some training in the UK - he's not very happy to pay international roam rates for his mobile to the UK. So I've bought him a UK mobile sim and stuck it into an old phone.
It's tested and it all works fine - except the voicemail message is a boring tesco system message - I don't feel up to the challenge of speaking a message for my friend
That lightbulb moment - Why not google an answer - a quick google search on "text to voice" yields the daddy from where else but AT&T?
Brilliant they have a choice of English accents including Anjali from India. Those of you who know me well should be scared ... very scared - you'll hear more of this voice.
So I've emailed a few questions to a leading UK flickr person and well known - in key demographics comedian
Hopefully He'll reply to my Alan Partridge-like questions with the humour, wit and humanity that his pictures have.
